    Description

    We are offering a
    RARE
souvenir program from the May 4, 1896 opening night performance of "
    The Rivals
    " and "
    Leaving The Masked Ball
" at Gilmore's Court Square Theatre in Springfield, Massachusetts.  (Two-page program held together with a tasseled cord).
The front cover illustration, designed and painted by Gates and Morange, scenery designers for major Broadway productions, depicts two lovely maidens sitting on the edge of the stage, pulling back a curtain to reveal a picture of the Gilmore Theatre.  When the program is opened, we see pictures of the entire cast of "
    The Rivals
": Joseph Jefferson, William H. Crane, Nat. C. Goodwin, Francis Wilson, Robert Taber, Joseph Holland, E.M. Holland, Mrs. John Drew, Julia Marlowe Taber, and Fanny Rice.  The next page has a great Gates & Morange scene from "
    Leaving The Masked Ball
    ".
CONDITION: Excellent; the back of the second page is pasted on heavy cardboard, which was actually a section of a scrapbook page.
